The Mansion of E :: Part Six: On My Way to Town
N.B.: The title-strip for this chapter also appears with the Smyt special-occasion scenes which ran from late 2015 to Thanksgiving 2016 and occasionally thereafter.
[US Memorial Day] Among other places, Griffington was previously discussed here.Griffington was not bald, but had short very straight hair. Angus on the other hand did go mostly bald at an early age. And yes, the poor chump who got assigned Weirdo duty in Angus's court had a rather rough time of it. Glowmasters/mistresses were mentioned here. Griffington's battletanks were mentioned here. The Infernal Engine was previously shown here. The city of Rowen's location was previously shown here. And yes, it's officially "RowEn", not "RowAn" like the real-life tree. And however it's spelled, the city is still big and important enough that Rosemary had heard of it before coming to the Mansion. Glome is far more centrally and strategically located than Eetown, and is now the provincial capital of Audravania. And Rosemary is refering to this. In the second panel, Rosemary refers to this conversation. Moonin is her home, and it and Morlock and Erewhon ended being western provinces in Yurpsland. And Audra had various hooks she could switch between. Hyacinth Wirt was the sister of the head of the Wirt family at the time. The Yann is a major river in the country of Zandu, and is semi-officially considered to be the border between "The Near World" and "The Deep Jungles". Boatmurder Island is a useless little lump of rock in the middle of the Bay of Moons, on Yurpland's eastern coast. It was called that before the battle, because of all the treacherous shoals around it. Neither side even wanted to have a fight there, but events spiraled out of control, and numerous more ships got sunk before everyone withdrew with no territory changing hands. Rosemary is referring to this. And almost since the University's beginnings, a simultaneously beloved and ridiculed landmark on the campus has been a large yellow statue of a pig; the object's exact origins are a little vague. Ludwig's involuntary side-adventure was previously referenced here. And wow, I didn't realize how much I had changed his look over the years. It's just artistic drift, not a plot-point or anything. In case it's not clear, Snowflake of Thull was the Prime Oracle at the time of Yorik's conquests. Up until this point, the High Temple had been much like the Vatican in real-life medieval Europe. She acknowledged Yorik's political rule, and he in turn reaffirmed the High Temple as Yurpland's official state religion. Unsurprisingly, they had a complicated personal relationship. Everybody in modern-day Yurpsland is aware of these facts. Pinwheel has been previously glimpsed here and here. Rosemary saw the kitchen-device here. Disclaimer: Yorik didn't literally suit up in full armor to go stand under the blazing Shibolithian sun to exchange cold hard stares with his Theklan counterpart, but metaphorically, that's exactly what the two of them did, before signing that treaty. And speaking of said counterpart, he was doing pretty much the same thing as Yorik: unifying his country-to-be, with pretty similar forces and tech levels. The Polarites were a whole different ball of wax. Blevins' book about Audravania.Durand's book about Yurpsland. And if I was doing this over again, Rosemary would have at least vaguely heard of Audra before coming to the Mansion. It be Talk Like a Pirate Day, and so we be checkin' in with th' crew o' th' Prettylady! Ernest's forgeries in the Hall of Achievement have been Changed since they were first seen. Ernest and Sylvester's relative Arianya was discussed here. Stanton Sardoodle the famous Yurpslander playwright was mentioned here. Prairie and Birchlemon were two Prime Oracles. The current use of pools in Yurpslander marriage ceremonies was mentioned here. The senses ceremony was seen starting here. Hindenburgh the Wizard has been mentioned previously. And so has Purity the Oracle. Hepzibah Kelly was Philbert's wife. The Forest of Burzee was discussed here. Quincy's entry in the Hall of Achievement. The fellow in the third panel is Eetown sorta-Mayor Simon Stout. Scarfwomen and Men are folks who have attended Whovian College. Frederick and Willoughby hauled the boat. Willoughby possibly being a wizard. Willoughby and the Noodle Incident. In the third panel Rosemary is referring to this. Since I evidently didn't make it clear.. while they aren't quite tycoons perhaps, Nimue's family owns more than one orchard. Spoiler: Yes, Nimue returned home to her parents. Whovian College.Shackleforth Ferule.Ferule and Lenore.Dalton Mundivagant. And Sylvester is just possibly being unfair with his comments about Lenore and Mr. Ferule. Annmarie being ill was why she did not attend Sylvester's graduation. And Aunt Agatha's husband Mr. Gregson died at a fairly young age. The Earl Sneech Den Walk was discussed here. The Human in the first panel is Griffington's chief Tech-Poker and Basement-Explorer Krell. Sylvester Minkybean's book.Obadiah Wuttgutt's book.
