The Mansion of E :: Part Five: Mechanisms in the Dark
Agorn the Gnoll last appeared here. Comshaw engaged in "back-clinging" here. Agorn met the Humans here. Yes, Comshaw. Since folks are going to worry about it, none of that background text matters very much, and little of it matters at all. (But yes, it all does mean something..) And please don't waste time trying to decypher the scratch collection, either. Agorn watched Yasmine and Mortimer here. Comshaw bapped a Fixit here. Bung.Tuft and Dap (and Odum).Anathama and Clochard.Squeeb. (Look carefully!)Faddle. As noted yesterday, Faddle the Gnoll was last seen more or less here. Parts of this dialogue were previously seen here. The giant PROZ was caused and also witnessed here. No, I'm not going to make you go through the whole Endless Day again. We'll get through this plot fill-in as quickly as possible. When speaking of Guttle, Nevus is referring to this. Comshaw, Niddle, Ig the Saur and some Pales got a closer look at this display here. Shona the Gnoll has just been finishing up this encounter. Mortimer in the former World O' Pots basement. Mortimer interacting with Agita. Agorn at the crater. Mortimer falling in the hole.Rufus and Eunice. The hut in the forest. As noted yesterday, Yasmine finds the hut here. The scene at the crater.Agorn going underground. Mortimer dealt with the hole starting here. Comshaw and Niddle touched on the concept of metalmin here. Hopobefever and Sina discussed the use of "grit" here. Mortimer dealt with the storage room and the Shopbot starting here. Agorn described the crater scene to Agita here.Agorn met the Humans in the Sneech den starting here. Those two in the second panel are Umboz and Frotz the forest Nomes. And yes, Agorn spends a depressing amount of his time spying on people from behind things. Rosemary got Villipend the Trog's scent on her starting here.Anathama the Gnoll's version of Sylvster was glimpsed here . Furphy the Gnoll last appeared here, and originally way back here. The Observer.Blit the Gnoll and Co.The Gibber.Scibile. Anathama and Clochard.Dandilli. And yes, when Jibjibs normally talk, their beaks don't open. It's partly an artistic decision, and partly not.. Just to be merciful for once.. no, that Gnoll has not previous appeared on-screen. Zugo previously appeared here. Leny the Troglodyte. Nikhedonia the Eyebolt.Kottle the Gnoll.Fosic the Helipath.Pergola the Gnoll. Mortimer was last seen here; for him, very little time has passed. Amos was last seen more or less here. The planet Nibiru has previously been seen here. The other planets in the sky above the Wide World are Perelandra, Barsoom, and, if you've got a good enough telescope, Yuggoth. That was supposed to be Mortimer and Sylvester's mother there in the second panel, but.. it really doesn't match her other appearences. So let's just say that's what she looked like when she was really young. Sylvester previously mentioned his and Mortimer's mother's ability to hear things way back here. Thanks as always to Roland Lowery/Jim North, wherever you may be, for first creating Hindenburgh during a previous holiday season. Sylvester and Rosemary played with "the Lights" here. Sylvester held the umbrella here. The glowgem was found here. Rosemary and Sylvester getting zapped.Sylvester getting back to normal.Rosemary suddenly acting weird again. The Nomes who have fled to the Pale fort were last seen discussing things roughly here. Fizmo the Nome was last seen here. Fizmo had her encounter with SuperRock starting here. It was pointed out to me that I messed up the proportions on display here. As I've probably said before, math is not my strong point, and I'd rather spend my time drawing and thinking about plot than calculating window sizes, but I can see how it bothers people. So, for the record, yes, this particular window should probably have been drawn larger during the zoom-in panels. I always appreciate and encourage feedback, but I'm not going to re-draw it, as getting new strips done every day is enough of a pain without engaging in second-guessing myself and retconning. How tall is the Spike? It's tall, decent-skyscraper sized, reaching well above the height of the biggest pine tree, but not "Sears Tower" tall. It's also not terribly wide. (Looking back in the mists of time, one of its subconscious inspirations was probably the Space Needle, though it's taller than the real-life structure.) In Eetown's heyday, it was used by Humans to moor airships; that crumbling structure wrapped around it all that is left after fifty unattended years in the elements. How many floors are there, particularly at the top? Several, and the number sometimes changes with all the mechanical shifting going on. Additionally, the whole thing was originally built by and for Ettins, who were substantially taller than Humans. This means the windows tend, yes, to be quite large and/or high up. Eunice and Rufus were last seen here. Dorian appeared here. Sylvester used the prototype Confuflux here.
